DESCRIPTION:
In this volume he focuses on one of the most renowned conductors of the 20th-century.. In addition, this book contains two new interviews, a new index and supplementary documents. This volume brings together two of B.H.Haggin's books on Toscanini - "Conversations With Toscanini" and "The Toscanini Musicians Knew". Haggin is a highly praised music critic, probing into the lives and works of musicians and presenting his findings with great clarity
Lawrie Cherniack said Great read about great conductor. This is a great read! It consists of two books. The first is Haggin's own recollections of conversations with Toscanini and of rehearsals and performances during most of Toscanini's career. It is insightful. The second is Haggin's interviews with many musicians who played under Toscanini. It is quite moving and instructive. Together, they constitute a readable and enjoyable book about a very great conductor and ultimately a very humble man.. Clearheaded Writing So much nonsense has been written about Toscanini that it is a pleasure to have this double book available. Haggin may occasionally have been worshipful about Toscanini (tho not always), but he was always honest. Beautifully written.
