This is a book to inspire one to grab a pencil and start drawing , not so much a book to learn how to . There is a small section in the beginning about materials , colors and how to draw , but for the rest it is more a history of the botanical drawings , with the very best examples of what has been done in the past , ( Dürer ' s grasses ) and what is possib. This is botany for poets. But it covers the material a botanical illustrator must know without getting mired down.I do wish they had covered a bit about the frequent confusion over tree identification and the tricky genetics that can baffle botanists as well as laymen.
