I loved Pan's Labyrinth and El Orfanato, so I new Guillermo Del Toro's imagery and designs would be unique, creative and macabre. Happily, I wasn't wrong.While the film has some issues, I still enjoyed it. The book is the same. It has stunning photography throughout from the film, including images from the posters, but there are also a handful of "curiosities" tucked into . Many of the pages were stuck together when I received it, and there are also creases on some of the pages from the inserts. The silver ink used for the printing transferred over to the opposite pages, and in some places when I separated the pages it left white marks.. Beautifully put together like all of Del Toro's films themselves Upon opening the book I knew this was a book was a labor of love.The book is put together like one of Del Toro's film itself with deliberate intention to serve a specific purpose. There are "newspaper clippings" of in depth detailed biographies of each of the characters in the film. There are costume sketches from Kate Hawley the custom designer. There are several behind the scene pages dedicated to building the magnificent Allerdale Hall itself.
