Almost had to DNF this VERY dark tale several times This is some of the darkest, sickest, most twisted crap I've ever read - and I've read a book about a cannibal. Alice Keale seems a fairly normal Londoner who has a good job, money in the bank, friends but apparently a crippling and dangerous sense of low self esteem. At least in the first. momtwogo said Too soon. This was a scary and true tale of domestic violence, one that Alice should perhaps have waited to tell until she was healed. At the conclusion of the book, its obvious that her self-esteem is still so low that she could easily find herself in another situation like this. She knew her torme. Pamela said If. I thought this book was very well written, interesting, but also frustrating given the fact that Alice being a smart, educated, successful woman couldn't readily identify Joe's pathology from the onset.
