Page 19, paragraph 2 "Some of today's painters can render figures and objects as well as the master painters of the past; however, these painters do not consistently produce masterful compositions, largely because they rely solely on their intuition to group figures, objects, and spaces within the frame. Artistic intuition and sensitivity to order are vital elements that contribute to the style of an artist, yet these elements alone are not enough if one is to achieve a consistent level of compositional mastery". The book gives in details how to construct . "Inspirational guide to painting realism." according to C. Ridgway. This book is an inspirational guide to painting realism. I haven't yet read it all the way through. But it covers excercises in painting monochromatic studies and working your way up to full colour paintings. It does not teach you haw to draw and therefore I would not recommend this book for absolute beginners. It gives an introduction to painting composition using the armature of a rectangle with some pertinent examples. The illustrations are gorgeous, but it could have done with a few more step by step pictures to guide the artist. I recommend this book for advanced beginners and intermediate painters..
