Started well and went downhill by the end Sheri Oz I was very much engaged in this book at the beginning. It began well, like a good detective story. I settled in for a fun read. But after the romance began, it started to break down. The romance was okay, even if a bit sugary sweet; there were some funny moments and I enjoyed the couples repartee. But then silliness broke through and the end was obvious quite soon and too sweet for consumption.Still, it was a light read when you need something mindless and don't want anyone to see you veging out in front of the small screen. You look more intellectual this way.. jw said Who wins at love?. Yes, this was written about a century ago, but people's emotion haven't changed. Quite a story of four women and who wins at love. Ms. Reed expertly presents each one's personality type and great dialogue. Wish our society today kept the politeness of yesteryear. Don't think it's a maudlin romance. To the contrary, it's full of characters that could easily adapt to a current bestseller and the intanglements kept my interest until the end. Recommended..
