DESCRIPTION:

"Close-up card magic is performed right under the noses of the spectators. Seasoned professionals agree there is no better way to learn how to handle an audience than when they are inches away." — Karl Fulves.Karl Fulves is one of the most popular and respected magic authorities writing today. Simple step-by-step instructions, accompanied by clear, carefully drawn illustrations, make these applause-winning tricks absolutely foolproof, requiring no long practice or dexterity to perform.. The performer needs only a deck of cards and a few everyday objects like a coin or a rubber band. The tricks are simple to master. In Self-Working Close-Up Card Magic he shows beginners how to perform 56 tried-and-true, crowd-pleasing tricks for the kind of small, close-up audiences that gather at parties and family get-togethers. The kind of close-up performing these tricks require offers beginners the best possible way to learn how to engage and handle an audience.Among the tricks are "openers," which quickly get an audience's attention and set the stage for the rest of the act; memory tricks that make it appear the performer has an uncanny ability to memorize cards; gambling tricks that seem to give the performer an expert ability to control the cards in games of chance; and "gimmicked" cards that create eye-popping visual magic. It has an immediacy that cannot be duplicated

OTTObox said After this one, get the whole Fulves catalog. Simple yet effective tricks that can modified to seemingly more complex illusions (ex: Dean's Box).Anyone interested in magic will enjoy and learn a lot from this and any of the other Fulves books on magic published by Dover. With a little imagination and storytelling, simple thirty second tricks can become fifteen minute illusions. After all, magic is the secret AND the performance. The magician is the magic.. Alan Meyers said For Fulves Fans -- But Not All of Them!. Fulves fans, beware! The advertising on Amazon.com for this "new" book does not reveal that it is actually a REPRINT in one volume of two old books of card tricks by Karl Fulves previously published by Dover Books. The two old books are "More Self-Working Card Tricks" and "New Self-Working Card Tricks." If you are like me, you already own these books and so probably won't want to buy this one. If, however, you like Mr. Fulves's work but don't have those two books, or if you don't know his stuff but like card tricks that are se. "A Long Standing Classic Handbook that Meets the Test of Time!" according to Randy Schwager. This book provides some great trick ideas. As with any magic book, it's easier to learn an affect and deliver it from watching a video as opposed to taking it from the printed page. However, there are enough nuggets in this book to make it worthwhile! I would recommend it for anyone looking to add to their list of self-working card tricks!
