DESCRIPTION:

A Very Important Book I purchased and read "The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are" by Alan Watts based on another reader's review, where it was compared to Jiddu Krishnamurti's "Freedom from the Known". Krishnamurti's "Freedom from the Known" has long been a favorite of mine (I love all of his books, really) because after reading that small book, my worldview changed completely. The comparison to "The Book" is spot on.(As an aside: I also adore Thich Nhat Hanh).Everything I felt after reading "Freedom from the Known", I feel again after reading "The Book", only on a larger, more all-enco. Laugh your way to enlightenment. Years ago, I participated in the est Training in Aspen, CO. Much of the training sounded almost exactly like "The Book," by Alan Watts Read Alan Watts and learn who you really are. Then Read Joey Lott and learn to chill out. I was a former science teacher in private and public secondary schools and public (read: government) are never about teaching you who you are, ever. This book teaches you what religion, schools, politics, society do not teach you - who you really are. Can you handle knowing who you are?Read the book. It is also pretty funny.Steven Blue. "Classic Expostion of Oneness/Advaita for the Western Mind" according to Dan Shafer. Watts' classic exposition of Advaita for the Western mind is quite excellent as a teaching vehicle if a bit uneven in its writing style. Watts dips his toes in and out of the esoteric waters of Advaita-speak where it often takes multiple readings of some paragraphs and sentences to grasp even a semblance of their meaning. The introductory student would do well to read the book through once without trying to understand every paragraph's intent. The overall impact, meaning, value, and Truth of Advaita comes through even in a fairly cursory reading. This book has a permanent space o

In this classic book, Watts provides a lucid and simple presentation of an alternative view based on Hindu and Vedantic philosophy.. Modern Western culture and technology is inextricably tied to the belief in the existence of a self as a separate ego, separated from and in conflict with the rest of the world
