This audiobook is a fascinating insight into the life of one of the most important artists working today and the woman who has been described as 'the grandmother of performance art'.. This memoir spans Marina Abramovic's five-decade career and tells a life story that is almost as exhilarating and extraordinary as her groundbreaking performance art. Taking us from her early life in communist ex-Yugoslavia to her time as an a young art student in Belgrade in the 1970s, where she first made her mark with a series of pieces that used the body as a canvas, the audiobook also describes her relationship with the West German performance artist named Ulay who was her lover and sole collaborator for 12 years. Toe-curling, thought provoking, inspiring Sitara Morgenster Marina Abramovich made life and profession one and the same thing from quite a young age and stuck with it. She dedicated herself to pushing her own physical, mental and emotional limits, culminating in inspiring, shocking, toe curling, thought & feeling-provoking performance art, ultimately culminating in a desire for community and connection through opening our eyes to the exploration, possibilities of the mysterious energy that moves everything in us, through us and around us, in a very real way. Well, that's how I read it anyway, and I enjoyed it.. Great Read Amazon Customer I really enjoyed reading about the life of this incredibly interesting artist. A look deeper into where the artist came from lets you know that there is so much more to her work then just what you see.Her works while visual are intended to make you think maybe even disturb you a bitOr to bring an emotional reaction when you feel how the performance relates to you on a personal levelA must have for people who appreciate meaningful performance art.. "Autobiographical insights into a global artist" according to Scott Roller. Marina Abramovic is an amazing artist and I thoroughly enjoyed the book, though I do understand that some readers may be put off by her very direct and occasionally self-indulgent style of writing. The book does provide a great deal of personal background to the life and work of an exceptional woman.
