A saga to rival Herbert's Dune In my teen years I discovered Frank Herbert's Dune series and was immediately mesmerized by his description of people's and places in space. I never thought anyone could rival his vivid imagery and detailed descriptions of other places and people. In most sagas since I have enjoyed details of several different peoples and places, but none compare to this. Here we have dozens of creatures described in in. "Good, solid sci-fy" according to Brad B.. The speed with which the plot got moving caused me some concern at first, due mostly to action and events far outpacing any character or story development. But things settled in and I enjoyed the ride well enough. Before I bought this, I did read that it was the author's first book, so I was inclined to focus more on the "pleasantly surprised" by the things he did well, and tried not to get stuck on the. 'just one more chapter' and I'll eat' - 6 hours later I have every Book of Weber and Drake and a lot of RingoIf the next couple of books are as good as this one then I am going to put White in that group. As it pertains to Characters, Plot and keeping me turning the page it did not get any better. I am a fast reader and yet it took me 15 hours to read this book over a 2 day period.
