"Shiver Me Timbers" according to Robert P Gelms. Shiver Your WHAT?By Bob Gelms You know how sometimes you get a gift you had no idea was coming? It's a gift you didn’t know you wanted. The surprise gift turns out to be wonderful, exciting, and it gives you an enormous amount of pleasure, you know? Well that’s what happened to the publishing world and a giant number of readers in 2009.Michael Crichton had a literary gif. Not Sabatini, but a good attempt This was written after Chrichton's death, so I'm assuming that was the reason for my disappointment with it. It ends abruptly and the wrap up at the end seems like it was added by someone else. The writing was fine and I enjoyed the characters. The novel was well-researched though the ship and crew must have experienced every pirate cliche in this novel. That's not to say that their . "Excellent read, authentically presented." according to Cannon. A well researched work of fiction, Pirate Latitudes breezes through a story of piracy and revenge without bogging down in the tedium that some historical fiction can stumble into, and that is a very good thing. Set in 1665, it tells the story of Captain Charles Hunter, a privateer who’s hired by the governor of Jamaica’s Port Royal to steal a Spanish galleon and its cargo of gold treasure. Pirate fans will love the book for its flashy characters and historical authenticity. Crichton keeps us in a constant state of suspense, never revealing quite what his hero, Captain Hunter, has up his sleeve, and the nov

Hunter assembles a crew of ruffians to infiltrate the enemy island and commandeer El Trinidad, along with its fortune in gold. Word in port is that the galleon El Trinidad is awaiting repairs in a nearby, heavily fortified, harbor. For Captain Charles Hunter, there’s a living to be made, and gold in Spanish hands is gold for the taking. Port Royal, Jamaica is a cutthroat town of taverns, grog shops, and bawdy houses. The Caribbean, 1665. The raid is as perilous as the bloodiest tales of island legend and Hunter will lose more than one man before he even sets foot on foreign shores, where dense jungle and the firepower of Spanish infantry stand between him and the treasure With all the suspense that readers have come to expect from one of the best-loved authors of all time, Pirate Latitudes is an irresistible adventure of swashbuckling pirates in the New World, a classic story of treasure and betrayal.
