After the first terrorist plot was foiled, the others were painfully predictable. The only character that was developed to any extent was the Russian spy guy who alerted the U.S. to the plot. The book was about three times as long as it needed to be.Not his best. Longer is not always better.. Nice conceptually. Good story but it meanders through pages of unnecessary dialog. The author could have added more missions by the Six group. A good example of what I mean is a book like Lone Survivor or the Reaper. Clearly the content is different but I love the way the story is told in the latter books I mention. Well written, full of relevant action packed (and sometimes humorous) details, and fast paced. This book could have been so much be. More relevant as time passes Amazon Customer I have read this book six times. It only gets more relevant as time passes. The reality is that Tom Clancy foresaw what terrorism could become on a world stage. His choice of cause for the ideology is interesting, but you can put any purpose as a motivation for their despicable deeds. A multinational anti-terror strike-force is just what the world needs. It's full of the signature Clancy action-on-every-page. You don't want to

As is made clear from the opening pages of Rainbow Six, ex-Navy SEAL Clark and his colleagues believe violent, deadly force to be the best deterrent for terrorism. Morally centered, disciplined, humble yet powerful, Ryan (and his onscreen incarnations in Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford) has made Tom Clancy one of the most popular writers in the world. The book is infatuated with the latest gadgets for scrambling, transmitting, and decoding secrets. Appearing in The Cardinal of the Kremlin, Clear and Present Danger, and Without Remorse, Clark has many of Jack Ryan's most appealing traits, but he is also a darker figure embodying the more paranoid sensibilities of the late '90s. 4 Compact Discs / 6 HoursRead by David Dukes(Also available on cassette)Tom Clancy's most shocking story to date - and closer to reality than any government would care to admit.Over the course of nine novels, Tom Clancy's "genius for big, compelling plots" and his "natural narrative gift" (The New York Times Magazine) have established him as one of the preeminent storytellers of our time.  In his new and most extraordinary novel, Rainbow Six, Clancy goes beyond anything he has done before. At its heart is John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL of Without Remorse, a master of secret operational missions, and newly named the head of an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism.  Clark is looking forward to sinking his teeth into a new mission, but the opportunities start coming faster than anyone could have expected; an incident at a Swiss bank, the kidnapping of an international trader in Germany, a  terrible raid on an amusement park in Spain. Each episode seems separate, yet the timing disturbs Clark.  Is there a connection?  He tries to figure out where all this activity is heading, but there is no way to predict the real threat: a group of terrorists like none the world has ever encountered, a group so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on this earth as we know it.  This is Clancy at his best - and there is none better.
