DESCRIPTION:

Within that story of survival in a harsh, unforgiving business world is also the story of a company attempting to do the right thing regarding the environment, to have fair and ethical dealings with foreign governments, and to give citizens in the areas being mined an economic stake in the mining operation. How Newmont survived and prospered in these tumultuous times, especially from the mid-1980s until the present had not yet been recorded until this book. “Newmont Mining Corporation has been in business for close to ninety years, having successfully navigated a business environment that brought down many of its competitors. These have not been easy goals to accomplish. It is a story well worth reading.”

He asserts that Newmont is the link between early gold mining and today’s technology-driven industry. Instead of panning for ready nuggets, today’s corporate miners must face heavy odds by extracting value from ores containing as little as one-hundredth of an ounce per ton. This is a fascinating story of the metal that has ignited passions for centuries and now sells for nearly $1,000 an ounce.. We learn how the company’s founder and several early leaders grew up in gold camps and how, in 1917, the company helped finance South Africa’s largest gold company and later owned

"a very enjoyable book to read because of the nice flow of the" according to Jackson M.. a very enjoyable book to read because of the nice flow of the; words, history, chapters, mining methods used and the business of mining industry.. Great Book!! Excellent book. I learned so much about business, as well as geologic discoveries, takeovers, the evolution of the company. It made me want to work for them! I must admit, it read like a promotional book, even though it asserted that the author was writing under his own accord. But seeing as how he had been a corporate officer, he was obliviously very pro-Newmont. But that didn't really bother me. I really enjoyed the way the book was put together and understanding the processes. Very informative look inside this major gold company and the gold mining industry in general. I have followed this stock for years but I never realized how much I didn't know about the company until I read this book. Also a good read for any one interested in gold mining companies in general and for all "Gold Bugs".
