"A great read for anyone interested in cryptozoology" according to S. Anderson. My favourite thing about this book is that it goes beyond simply debunking tall tales or explaining cryptid sightings. It considers whether the explanations given for various cryptids are compatible with what we know about evolution and biology, and it looks at how popular culture shapes our ideas about cryptids.Should we expect that a large hominid like bigfoot might. Petter Douglas Huestis said Excellent introduction to the subject. This is an excellent, concise overview of the problems with cryptozoology. If you'd like to read just one healthily skeptical overview on the subject, this is a great choice. Highly readable, and respectful yet forceful in its refutations, the clear-headed approach offered here is a good contrast with both the pie-eyed gullible on the one hand, and the snootily dismis. "Fair and evenhanded" according to Jim Davis. The author was on the Monstertalk podcast plugging this book. He was interesting and engaging so I thought I would give his book a shot.Naish comes across as a sympathetic skeptic. He clearly does not believe that any of the creatures covered in this relatively brief book have a flesh and blood existence but he does not dismiss the field of cryptozoology as a psuedosc
