This is all you'll really need-for starters but later you wish for an better INDEX I have dabbled in many mediums but have never had any training or study program. This book is it! As I have been reading the thing that I like best is that it tells you why and why not.People say, "Experience is the best teacher" but I have found the corollary - Experience may be the best teacher but it is also the most expensive". Say you happen to paint a beautiful picture but you didn't prime the "support" (anything you paint ON)and then in a couple of years it start falling apart from the underside THEN you'll be sorry you hadn't known.or you put a lot of thinner O. I live in Thailand, so not many good art classes in english here,so this book has helped me with all the basic stuff, setting up a studio, colour mixing, what to buy when first starting out. What not to buy. I hesitated to buy the book as I knew how to copy a painting, but could not get started on my own work. This book gives great practical info. so that you can "teach your self". Much easier than trying to watch tutorials on line, and far more fun than going to a bad art class with a mediocre teacher. Highly recommend !.
